GBIF

2n= (1) 56 (8x). - Europe (N), Russia (N), Siberia (N), Far East (N), Canada, U.S.A. - Numerous reports, more than 100 counts.
(2) 70 (10x). - Canada. - Hedberg (1967); Weimarck (1971, 1973).
(3) ca. 84 (12x). - U.S.A. - Weimarck (1971, 1973). Probably a stray high polyploid in an otherwise 2n = 56 population.

Geography: Circumboreal-polar: NOR RUS SIB RFE ALA CAN GRL.

Notes: Greenland is added to Weimarck's (1971) treatment. We have confirmed a specimen (O), not seen by Weimarck, from southern Greenland. Allred and Barkworth (2007) synonymized Hierochloë arctica with Anthoxanthum hirtum. For reasons stated above, we do not follow that solution.
