Löve and Löve (1975a) and Bothmer et al. (2007) accepted only tetraploids. No morphological differences have been suggested between plants at the two well-documented ploidy levels (2x, 4x).

Notes: All or nearly all reports of Hordeum jubatum from the Arctic may be based on anthropochores. Other races have been described.
