3309100-101 The Carex macloviana aggregate C. macloviana, C. pachystachya

Geography: Amphi-Atlantic & amphi-Pacific - Cordilleran & South American (S).

Notes: Ball: You need to see the Flora of North America treatment of this section Mastrogiuseppe et al. (2002). In western North America, Carex pachystachya is regarded as specifically distinct from an essentially sympatric C. macloviana, but there are other taxa which have sometimes been included in these taxa, particularly C. microptera Mack. and C. tahoensis Smiley which are also widespread in the mountains and north into Alaska and the Yukon Territory.

Elven: The Flora of North America maps and text do not give sufficient information to decide which taxa reach the Arctic. We provisionally enter this mainly American aggregate as the two species proposed by Whitkus and Packer (1984).
