Not included: Reports of 2n = 68 from New Hampshire and Manitoba (Löve and Löve 1966, 1981d) are dubious.

Notes: Murray and Elven: Standley et al. (2002) accepted five North American varieties of Carex lenticularis: one in the east (var. lenticularis) and four in the west (var. dolia (M.E. Jones) L.A. Standley, var. impressa (L.H. Bailey) L.A. Standley, var. limnophila (Holm) Cronquist, and var. lipocarpa (Holm) L.A. Standley). Dragon and Barrington (2009) found good support for three species in three different clades: C. lenticularis restricted to eastern North America, C. kelloggii (including var. lipocarpa + var. impressa + var. limnophila), and C. enanderi Hultén (var. dolia). Carex lenticularis and C. kelloggii reach the Arctic, whereas C. enanderi approaches in southern Alaska.
Porsild and Cody (1980) mapped one arctic locality for C. lenticularis west of Hudson Bay. It approaches the Arctic also several other places in Canada.
