3309062 Carex sabulosa Turcz. ex Kunth

Geography: Asian (N/C) & American Beringian.

Notes: Two races of Carex sabulosa have been proposed: subsp. sabulosa as widespread in Siberia and subsp. leiophylla based on a very isolated population at Carcross in the southern Yukon Territory. Porsild (1966) compared plants from the Yukon Territory and the lower Lena River and found them essentially similar, whereas they differed from southern Siberian C. sabulosa in narrower, more canaliculate leaves, less stiff and erect culms, and more compact inflorescence. He suggested that all northern plants should be assigned to subsp. leiophylla. We follow that proposal.
