GBIF

2n= ca. 100 106. - Europe, Canada. - At least four reports.
Not included: An old report of 2n = 74 from Sweden (Heilborn 1924).

Geography: North American (N) - amphi-Atlantic - European - Asian (W): NOR RUS? CAN GRL.

Notes: Elven, Murray, and Solstad: Kuzeneva (1954) reported Carex buxbaumii from Svjatoj Nos on the Murman coast (northwestern European Russia) but the specimens might belong to C. adelostoma. Reports of C. buxbaumii from Iceland are referable to C. adelostoma (Kristinsson 2008, in comment), confirmed by our own revision (ICEL).

The North American plants differ morphologically from the Eurasian ones, more so than, e.g., C. morrisseyi differs from C. adelostoma (see below). Two races may be present, also as there is an appreciable gap in northeastern Asia, but as far as we know there is no name or description available for the North American plants or any more thorough investigation supporting a split.
