Geography: Circumpolar-alpine: ICE NOR RUS SIB RFE ALA CAN GRL.

Notes: Elven, Murray, and Solstad: The name subsp fuscidula has not been much applied in North America or the North Atlantic regions. Svalbard is added because Egorova's (1999) suggestion that plants from the single known locality there might belong to subsp. fuscidula has proved correct (Elven et al. 2001). Iceland and mainland Norway are added due to recent revision (Elven and Solstad). The inspected plants of this group from Svalbard, northern Greenland, the Canadian High Arctic, and the northern Yukon Territory and Alaska fall nicely into two categories: C. capillaris subsp. fuscidula and C. krausei; the Iceland plants into three categories: C. capillaris subsp. capillaris, subsp. fuscidula, and C. krausei; and the northern Fennoscandian plants into two categories: C. capillaris subsp. capillaris and subsp. fuscidula.
