2n=
67-72. - Europe?, Canada, Greenland. - At least five reports.
The report of 2n = 67-70 from southern Greenland (Jørgensen et al. 1958) belongs here.
Geography: North American - amphi-Atlantic - European: GRL.
Notes: Egorova (1999) convincingly argued that the name Carex oederi Retz., often applied for this species, is a synonym of the very different C. pilulifera (sect. Acrocystis).
Carex viridula s. str. does not reach the Arctic in Europe. We have, however, seen specimens from several localities in the southernmost parts of Greenland (CAN, O). Crins (2002b) accepted the species from Greenland (as var. viridula). Porsild and Cody (1980) mapped it from the possibly Borderline Arctic north and northeast of Great Slave Lake but Scoggan (1978b) reported no arctic Canadian occurrences. There are no supporting specimens in CAN.
Ball: Riley does not have it from any arctic parts of Ontario or Manitoba (i.e., Hudson Bay).
