Notes: The specimens inspected from Svalbard, Greenland, and arctic parts of Canada and Alaska belong to subsp. subholarctica, reported to be the arctic race in Russia. Subspecies subholarctica then seems to be the only race in the Arctic. It is similar to subsp. simpliciuscula but the differential characters reported (details in inflorescence, see Egorova 1983, 1992) are deemed taxonomically significant. We do not yet know how consistent the differences are in material from outside Russia.
