330701 Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) O. Schwarz

Geography: North American - amphi-Atlantic - European & Asian (C).

Notes: Eleocharis quinqueflora from northern regions has been divided into three races: subsp. quinqueflora in Eurasia, subsp. fernaldii in eastern North America (Hultén 1968a, 1968b) or all of North America (Porsild and Cody 1980), and subsp. suksdorfiana in western North America (Hultén 1968b, accepted at the rank of species, E. suksdorfiana Beauverd, by Smith et al. 2002). Eleocharis quinqueflora is not known from the Arctic in Siberia, the Russian Far East, Alaska, or western Canada, which means that only two races are relevant for us. Smith et al. (2002) did not accept subsp. fernaldii. See the discussion by Smith (2001).

Eleocharis quinqueflora is known from a hot spring in Knighton Bugt in eastern Greenland. It is not known to which subspecies these plants belong. Hultén and Fries (1986) assigned Greenland material to subsp. quinqueflora. Internal note: Check this; there may be more Greenlandic material, also from the west.
