Not included: Löve and Löve (1975a) followed Hultén's concept of subsp. spissum, which means that at least four of the seven chromosome number reports they referred for subsp. spissum belong to subsp. vaginatum (Johnson and Packer 1968; Zhukova 1968; Zhukova and Tikhonova 1973; Packer and McPherson 1974).
Geography: North American (NE): CAN GRL.
Notes: We consider subsp. spissum to be a regional race replacing subsp. vaginatum in northeastern U.S.A., eastern Canada, and Greenland.
