3304 Maximowicziella A.P. Khokhr.
- A.P. Khokhr., Analiz Fl. Kolymskogo Nagorya: 15 (1989). - Nomen novum for Maximowiczia A.P. Khokhr., Fl. Magadan. Obl.: 73 (1985), non Maximowiczia Rupr. (1856, Schizandraceae). - Based on Scirpus sect. Japonica T. Koyama, J. Fac. Sci. Univ. Tokyo (Bot) 7, 6: 259 (1958).
Notes: Elven and Murray: Egorova (PAF proposal) assigned the species below to Scirpus. Oteng-Yeboah (1974b) argued for its inclusion in Eriophorum as the type species of a new subgenus Japonicus (T. Koyama) Oteng-Yeboah. He claimed that "the type species E. japonicum is intermediate between Eriophorum and Scirpus, though it shows more characters (particularly vegetative ones) of the former than the latter". Khokhrjakov (1985) proposed the genus Maximowiczia, by Khokhrjakov (1989) changed to Maximowicziella due to homonymy. Due to the controversy as to generic affinity and to the general disintegration of Scirpus s. lat., we have chosen to follow Khokhrjakov's proposal. The genus might be amphi-Pacific including the Californian species considered by Ball and Wujek (2002) as Eriophorum crinigerum (A. Gray) Beetle.
