2n=
48. - Europe. - Numerous reports.
Not included: Two fairly recent reports of 2n = 36 from western and central Europe (Lambert and Gisei 1967; Druskovic 1995) need verification before acceptance. This number corresponds to the most frequent number for Luzula multiflora subsp. multiflora. A report of 2n = 24 from northwestern Greece (Strid 1986) is also dubious. Early reports vary much (2n = 12-54), probably due to misidentifications. The only well-documented number is still 2n = 48. Kirschner et al. (2002a) reported 48 'quarter-sized' chromosomes, i.e., L. sudetica as diploid.
Geography: European: ICE NOR RUS.
