GBIF

2n= 80. - Europe (N). - At least three reports, ca. 5 counts.
Not included: Löve (1954b, an untrustworthy account) and Löve and Löve (1956b) reported the more low-ploid number of 2n = 40 from "Europe" and Iceland, at a time when they assumed that J. balticus was characterized by that number, whereas J. arcticus had 2n = 80. These reports were omitted by Löve and Löve (1975a) where they reported also J. balticus (then as a subspecies) with 2n = 80 only. It is not known what plants the earlier Löve counts were made on, if correctly counted, but note that J. filiformis is reported with tetraploids.

Geography: Amphi-Atlantic (E): ICE? NOR GRL.

Notes: Juncus balticus s. str. is present but may not reach the Arctic in Iceland (see J. arcticus subsp. intermedius above). In Norway, one arctic locality of J. balticus is known in Lebesby. It is present in southern Greenland (material seen from Arsukfjord in southwestern Greenland, O).
