Notes: In North America, Haynes and Hellquist (2000c) mapped Stuckenia filiformis subsp. filiformis from Alaska and the Yukon Territory (south of the Arctic), from boreal and arctic parts of northwestern Canada from the Mackenzie River to the Coronation Gulf, and from western Greenland. We provisionally distinguish between the northern Eurasian plants on one side and the Beringian and northern North American ones on the other. We do not know to which race(s) the Greenland plants belong. We provisionally assign them to subsp. borealis.

The original specimens cited by Blytt (1861) and annotated by him as Potamogeton marinus f. alpinus are from six localities in the south-central Norwegian mountain valleys. They were not studied by Les, Haynes, or Hellquist. In our opinion, they represent small-grown alpine modifications of S. filiformis s. str.
