Not included: We have assigned all chromosome number reports for P. abies from northern Fennoscandia (Löve and Löve 1975c; Christensen 2000) to subsp. abies.

Notes: The often cited combination subsp. obovata (Ledeb.) Hultén (Hultén 1949b: 388) is superfluous and also invalid due to insufficient reference to the basionym.
