Notes: Haufler et al. (1993b) considered the northeastern Asian and North American Polypodium sibiricum one of the diploid parents of the tetraploid eastern North American P. virginianum L. (non-arctic). They referred the name "columbianum" to the tetraploid, southwestern North American P. hesperium Maxon (non-arctic), of another parentage altogether.
