Notes: Gymnocarpium x intermedium is a tetraploid, spore-sterile hybrid, often found well outside the range of one of its parents (in northern Europe outside that of G. continentale), and it forms large stands, probably by vegetative means. It is reported to reach the Arctic in the Russian Far East and at Scammon Bay in western and in the Brooks Range in northern Alaska, see Sarvela (1980). This hybrid is behind many reports of the non-arctic G. robertianum from the Arctic in northwestern North America.
