Notes: Pryer (1993) considered the circumboreal-polar Gymnocarpium dryopteris an allotetraploid from the North American diploids G. appalachianum Pryer & Haufler and G. disjunctum (Rupr.) Ching.

Danilov (1988b) accepted no records of G. dryopteris from the Arctic in Siberia. However, Tolmachev (1960) reported it from arctic localities in Yamal-Gydan and Taimyr.
