Geography: Amphi-Beringian (E) - North American (N) - amphi-Atlantic (W): ICE? RFE ALA CAN GRL?

Notes: Solstad and Elven: The mainly American Botrychium minganense has only recently been accepted and identified in the material from arctic regions. This means that many old records and maps of B. lunaria must be reconsidered (e.g., Hultén 1968a; Hultén and Fries 1986). Wagner Jr. and Wagner (1993) mapped both species to reach the Arctic in North America, B. lunaria as the most widespread in the east, B. minganense in the west. However, they excluded a report from western Greenland by Porsild and Cody (1980).

Botrychium minganense is both amphi-Beringian and amphi-Atlantic. We found the species on the Chukchi Peninsula in 2005 (Elven and Solstad, O). Stensvold investigated plants from Iceland (in herb.) and proved the species from there and also to reach the arctic parts (Kristinsson et al. 2007). We have surveyed this material and agree that B. minganense is present in Iceland but the northernmost specimens we have confirmed is from Mývatnssveit, well south of the arctic parts. Iceland is therefore marked with a question mark. Jonsell (2000d: 30) referred to intermediates, possibly hybrids, between B. lunaria and B. simplex in a mixed stand of the assumed parents at lake Mývatn in Iceland. This reference relates to B. minganense. We have surveyed Scandinavian and Svalbard collections (BG, O, TRH, TROM) without finding any signs of B. minganense.
