Geography: Circumboreal?: (CAN).

Notes: Botrychium virginianum reaches the Borderline Arctic. Porsild and Cody (1980) and Scoggan (1978b) reported it from the southern shore of Hudson Bay at Gillam (Manitoba) and Severn River (Ontario, 5545'N).

Hultén (1968a) and Porsild and Cody (1980), among others, assigned the northernmost plants in Canada to subsp. europaeum. Hultén and Fries (1986) mapped subsp. virginianum as sympatric with subsp. europaeum within its range in North America. Tzvelev commented that he had seen no difference between European and North American plants. We follow him and Wagner Jr. and Wagner (1993) in not accepting races in this species.
