Solidago virgaurea L.
Publ. & Syn.L., Sp. Pl.: 880 (1753). Lectotype (LINN): Europe. Herb. Linn. 998.15 (Garbari and Cecchi in Jarvis and Turland 1998: 368).
NotesThe Scandinavian arctic-alpine subsp. lapponica differs from the temperate-boreal subsp. virgaurea in several features, most notably in size of capitula, shape and length of involucral bracts, and structure of inflorescence, but also in pubescence and partly in shape of leaves (see Elven et al. 2005). Rebristaya (1987a) and Korobkov (PAF proposal, comments) accepted Solidago virgaurea s. str. and S. lapponica. However, intermediates are frequent in a broad zone of overlap and we accept two parapatric and intergrading major races for the Checklist.
