NotesKorobkov: Subspecies virgaurea is confirmed from the lower Pechora and approaches the Arctic in the southern Kanin Peninsula and the southern Bolshezemelskaya tundra.
       Elven: Subspecies virgaurea reaches only the middle boreal zone in Norway. Farther north only transitions towards subsp. lapponica are found. The morphological limit between subsp. virgaurea and subsp. lapponica may have been drawn differently in northwestern Europe and in northern Russia.
