Rumex L.
Publ. & Syn.Excluded: Rumex alpestris (see R. lapponicus).
NotesTzvelev and Elven: The subgenera Acetosa and Acetosella are distinct segregates and might be acceptable genera. We keep them within Rumex due to strong synapomorphies in flower and fruit in Rumex s. lat.
Chromosomes14 (2x). - Europe, Russia, Siberia, Far East, Canada, U.S.A., Greenland. - Numerous reports.
Not included: There are several reports of 2n = 42 (6x) from southern Siberia and central Asia. These may belong to a different race or species (the otherwise Himalayan O. elatior R. Br. ex Meissn.?). The scant material we have inspected from these areas differ morphologically from the northern plants.
