Notes: Hultén (1950) and Hultén and Fries (1986) recognized both sect. Arctica (= Antarctica) and sect. Glabra as widely distributed in the Arctic. Tzvelev and Yurtsev (PAF proposal) recognized sect. Glabra as narrowly Eurasian and sect. Antarctica as nearly circumpolar. The reason for this difference is that Hultén included the Taraxacum alaskanum-kamtschaticum group in sect. Glabra, whereas Tzvelev and Yurtsev transferred it to sect. Antarctica. Richards and Sell (1976) included sect. Glabra in sect. Antarctica as one of its species groups. We follow the approach of Richards and Sell.

Tzvelev and Yurtsev recognized fairly many microspecies in this section, for the North American side very many more than the five species currently accepted by North American authors (Brouillet 2006a). Hultén (1950) based his treatment for Alaska on Dahlstedt's study and only recognized two Alaskan species of his sect. Arctica (T. hyparcticum and T. phymatocarpum) and one of his sect. Glabra (T. kamtschaticum). There is probably no way yet to reconcile the Tzvelev-Yurtsev approach and the North American one. The Tzvelev-Yurtsev proposal is presented below.
