Geography: Amphi-Atlantic (E) - European (N/C): ICE GRL.
Notes: Elven and Solstad: Subspecies pumila is common in Iceland, was confirmed by Feilberg (1984a) from southern Greenland, and is frequent in the Scandinavian mountains but does not reach the Arctic there.
Plants with the characters of subsp. pumila occur very disjunctly in most major mountain regions in Europe. According to Hultén and Fries (1986), this is the only race of Veronica alpina in Europe south of the British Isles and the Nordic region. Most authors treat it as a variety but as it is a major parapatric plant differing in several unrelated characters and without documented intermediates, the alternatives are rather rank of species or no rank.
