640508 Rubus idaeus L.
- L., Sp. Pl.: 492 (1753). Lectotype (LINN): Europe. Herb. Linn. 653.1 (Chater et al. in Edees and Newton 1988: 18).
Geography: Circumboreal.
Notes: Gladkova, Elven, and Murray: We accept the northern variation in Rubus idaeus s. lat. as three subspecies. The mainly Asian subsp. sachalinensis and the North American subsp. melanolasius may be more similar morphologically than both are to the mainly European subsp. idaeus. Subspecies sachalinensis differs from the two others in the reported (main) ploidy level. Ploidy levels of native plants may be more uniform than suggested by the numbers referred below. All the aberrant counts are from very early reports, the majority of them probably based on cultivars.
