630524 Astragalus laxmannii Jacq.

GBIF

Geography: Asian (N/C) & North American (W).

Notes: Welsh (2007) recognized three races of Astragalus laxmannii: the Siberian var. laxmannii (= A. adsurgens Pall., Astragalogia: 40, t. 31. 1800) and two North American varieties. Variety tananaicus (Hultén) Barneby & S.L. Welsh (A. tananaicus Hultén, A. adsurgens subsp. viciifolius (Hultén) S.L. Welsh) is restricted to the southern Yukon Territory and central Alaska and does not reach the Arctic. Variety robustior reaches the Arctic on Hudson Bay. These races are major allopatric (var. laxmannii) and parapatric (var. robustior and var. tananaicus) taxa. Subspecific combinations are not available under the priority species name. However, we keep the option open that a treatment as several species may be the more appropriate one.
