Notes: Subspecies villosus connects morphologically to subsp. subborealis in northeastern Fennoscandia with transitions in the provinces of Troms and Finnmark. It is the dominant taxon of the R. acris group in the northernmost parts of the British Isles, the Faeroes, Iceland, Greenland, and western and northern Scandinavia.

Subspecies villosus is widespread elsewhere as a weed, e.g., to it belongs the inspected material from Alaska (ALA) except for one sheet, and it has been collected as a weed at York Factory on Hudson Bay (CAN).
