- Schreb., Spic. Fl. Lips.: 47 (1771). Described from "in siccioribus ad Schoenfeld templum S. Theclae" near Leipzig (Germany). Holotype (LE)?: "Agrostis vinealis Spicil. Lips. Sh. Schreb.". Peterson and Soreng in Soreng et al. (2003) cited four possible syntypes in LE.

The species is predominantly tetraploid. Hexaploids are reliably documented only from the Czech Republic.
Geography: Amphi-Atlantic - European - Asian (W): ICE NOR RUS? GRL.
Notes: Agrostis vinealis occurs frequently in Norway northeast to the Russian border and is probably present also in the Arctic in northwestern European Russia.
