Montiaceae
Publ. & Syn.Suaeda maritima auct., non (L.) Dumort. (1827).
NotesMiller and Chambers (2006) referred molecular evidence supporting a split of Portulacaceae as traditionally considered. Portulaca and related genera are quite distant from Claytonia, Montia, and related genera. The authors stated: "Thus, the Portulacaceae as currently recognized are very likely polyphyletic". Stevens (2001 onwards) accepts two families. The genera that reach the Arctic all belong to the Claytonia-Montia group, i.e., Montiaceae.
Due to the wide variation in chromosome numbers, we have refrained from indicating base numbers in this family.
