PAF web app history and Contacts
- Data parsing: Christian Svindseth originally
created the PAF database from text documents supplied by the
PAF editors.
- Original design: Christian Svindseth also
developed the web
app to serve the PAF data (Github), using
Ruby and the sinatra web server. The
site was originally hosted in Norway at
http://nhm2.uio.no/paf/.
- New institutional home of PAF: Since October
2018, the PAF website project has been managed out of the
herbarium
of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (ALA). From 2018 to
2024, the original Ruby web app was hosted in the USA, at
a new URL, http://panarcticflora.org.
- Rewrite: In April 2025, after the original app
broke after a system upgrade, Cam Webb wrote a new app (in
Gawk) to present the same PAF data.
- Content updates: Please contact Reidar Elven, David Murray, or Steffi
Ickert-Bond, the ALA herbarium curator, with questions
about ongoing work on the Panarctic Flora, and suggestions
for updates. Alternatively, you may send changes to the
maintainer, Cam
Webb; patches to the source will also
be much appreciated.
- Data availability: The full underlying PAF
database is available. Please contact Cam Webb.
