Polygonum boreale (Lange) Small
Publ. & Syn.Small., Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 21: 479 (1894). - Polygonum aviculare var. boreale Lange, Consp. Fl. Groenland.: 105 (1880). Described from Greenland. - Polygonum arenastrum subsp. boreale (Lange) Á. Löve, Taxon 19: 300 (1970). - Polygonum aviculare subsp. boreale (Lange) Karlsson, Svensk Bot. Tidskr. 91: 249 (1997).
NotesPolygonum boreale is native on North Atlantic seashores in Europe and found as an adventive in some other northern areas, e.g., in Greenland where it seems from subfossils to be an archaeophyte from Medieval Norse time (or native?). It is casual in Svalbard. Scoggan (1978c) reported it from two arctic localities on Hudson Bay: Churchill and Cape Henrietta Maria. Morphologically it resembles Polygonum aviculare s. str.
