Chromosomes57-58 60. - Europe, Siberia, Far East (N), Alaska, Canada. - Numerous reports.
Not included: There are reports of chromosome numbers in what is named E. vaginatum from more southern areas: 2n = 26 from the Caucasus (Gvinianidze & Avazneli 1982) and 2n = 83 from Bulgaria (Stoeva 1992). In view of the uniformity in chromosome number(s) in this genus, we assume these reports to be based on other plants.
