NotesLysiella obtusata and L. oligantha are sometimes treated as subspecies, e.g., by Hultén (1968a). They differ in several characters, in ploidy levels, and are fully allopatric. The diploid L. obtusata is North American and the hexaploid L. oligantha Eurasian. Two species are justified.
Chromosomes84 (4x). - Europe (Iceland), Greenland. - At least four reports.
Not included: Sheviak and Bracht (1998) reported 2n = 42 (2x) for Limnorchis hyperborea. The report probably belongs to L. aquilonis; it was made before the description of that species.
