Potamogeton subsibiricus Hagstr.
Publ. & Syn.Potamogeton porsildorum Fernald, Mem. Amer. Acad. Arts, n. s., 17, 1: 40 (1932). Described from the Mackenzie River Delta in the Northwest Territories (Canada).
NotesHaynes and Hellquist (2000c) considered Potamogeton subsibiricus a species, Tzvelev (2000c) a subspecies of P. sibiricus. Kashina (1988) reported the following diagnostic features vs. P. sibiricus: stem more slender (0.5-1 vs. 1 mm), leaves with fewer veins (13-17 vs. 17-21), stipules brownish vs. pallid, inflorescence interrupted and in 3-4 whorls vs. nearly continuous, and fruiting peduncle straight vs. curved. The range of the rare P. sibiricus falls inside that of the more widespread P. subsibiricus. We have chosen the option of two species in absence of more information. We are, however, in doubts whether these really are two taxa.
