Ruppia L. | |
Publ. & Syn. | L., Sp. Pl.: 127 (1753). |
Chromosomes | (1) 24 (4x). - Europe, Siberia, Far East (N), Canada, Greenland. - Numerous reports. (2) 36 37 (6x). - Canada (British Columbia, Quebec). - Taylor and Mulligan (1968); Gervais et al. (1997a, two counts). Taylor and Mulligan (1968) stated that the report of 2n = 36 from British Columbia was based on an odd hexaploid with irregular meiosis. The same may be the case with the reports from Quebec. There is a Slovakian report of 2n = 28 (Murín in Májovský et al. 1975, Murín 1976, 'corrected' to 2n = 24 by Löve and Löve 1975a). The normal number is therefore probably 2n = 24 with some aneuploidy and odd (within-population) polyploidy. |
