NotesEgger (2008) kept Castilleja septentrionalis outside the C. pallida aggregate.

Not included: A report of 2n = ca. 96 (8x, n = 48) from Alberta (Taylor 1967) should be checked against original material. A report of 2n = 46 (ca. 4x) from "North America" (Löve 1954b, as C. pallida subsp. septentrionalis) is undocumented and in an untrustworthy paper.
