Limnorchis hyperborea (L.) Rydb.
Publ. & Syn.Rydb., Cat. Fl. Montana: 104 (1900). - Orchis hyperborea L., Mant. Pl.: 121 (1767). Lectotype (LINN): Iceland. Herb. Linn. 1054.42 (Ames 1910: 81). - Habenaria hyperborea (L.) R. Br. in W.T. Aiton, Hort. Kew., ed. 2, 5: 193 (1813). - Platanthera hyperborea (L.) Lindl., Gen. Sp. Orchid. Pl.: 287 (1835).
NotesIf the ploidy difference and the full allopatry between Limnorchis hyperborea and L. dilatata holds (Sheviak 2002b), transitions as reported by, e.g., Böcher et al. (1978) from Greenland are improbable. Limnorchis hyperborea may be an allotetraploid but we have not yet seen proposals for parentage.
Chromosomes84 (4x). - Europe (Iceland), Greenland. - At least four reports.
Not included: Sheviak and Bracht (1998) reported 2n = 42 (2x) for Limnorchis hyperborea. The report probably belongs to L. aquilonis; it was made before the description of that species.
