Nuphar Sm.
Publ. & Syn.Excluded: Nuphar lutea.
NotesThree taxa reach or border on the Arctic. They have been proposed as races of Nuphar lutea (L.) Sm. but the majority of authors accept species (e.g., Tutin 1993; Wiersema and Hellquist 1997; Uotila 2001b). Nuphar polysepala and N. variegata are allopatric North American vicariants of the widespread but non-arctic Eurasian N. lutea. Nuphar pumila is northern Eurasian and partly sympatric with N. lutea, with much hybridization and partial fertility in the hybrids (Uotila 2001b).
Chromosomes22 (2x). - Canada. - Hall et al. (1979); Löve and Löve (1980a).
