Podistera S. Watson
Publ. & Syn.S. Watson, Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 22: 475 (1887).
NotesElven and Murray: A separation of the small arctic-alpine plants of Pachypleurum and Podistera from Ligusticum as one or two genera seems appropriate. To keep Podistera and Pachypleurum apart as genera has been more disputed. Hultén (1947, 1968b) applied the name Ligusticum mutellinoides subsp. alpinum with both Pachypleurum alpinum and Podistera macounii as synonyms. After comparing the northern Siberian and Chukotkan Pachypleurum alpinum with the East Chukotkan and Alaskan Podistera macounii, in field and in herbaria, we are convinced that they are different species. Whether they belong to different genera or not we leave for someone else to decide. At present they are named in the genera Podistera and Pachypleurum.
