Ligusticum scothicum subsp. hultenii (Fernald) Calder & R.L. Taylor
Publ. & Syn.Calder & R.L. Taylor, Canad. J. Bot. 43: 1396 (1965). - Ligusticum hultenii Fernald, Rhodora 32: 7 (1930). Holotype (GH): Alaska: the Aleutian Islands, Atka, Nazan Bay, 26. July 1907, leg. Van Dyke 238.
NotesLigusticum scothicum (subsp. hultenii) is frequent on the Alaskan side of the Bering Strait and efficiently spread by sea currents. The absence of this plant on the Asian side is therefore surprising.
Hultén's (1958: 294) earlier combination as subspecies is without sufficient citation of basionym (ICBN demands full citation of basionym for names published later than 01. Jan. 1953). The authors of the first valid combination are therefore Calder and Taylor.
