Publ. & Syn.Less., Linnaea 6: 240 (1831). - Nomen novum for Arnica maritima L., Sp. Pl.: 884 (1753), non Senecio maritimus L. f. (1781). Neotype (BM-000576308): Canada: Labrador, "HMS Niger Expedition", 1766, leg. J. Williams (Barkley in Jarvis and Turland 1998: 353).
NotesSenecio pseudoarnica is disjunct between the Pacific and Atlantic coasts but does not reach the Arctic in eastern North America. The species has been introduced as an ornamental, has started to escape and establish on seashores in Iceland (ICEL; Pálsson 2004) and Norway (Sortland et al. 2007; Alm and Often 2008b; Elven observ. 2009), but has not yet reached the arctic parts.
