NotesMany Russian authors have accepted two species, Tanacetum vulgare and T. boreale (e.g., Tzvelev 1987e; Barkalov 1992; Korobkov PAF proposal), others two races (e.g., Boldyreva 1997b). They differ in few characters, are distributed as parapatric races in, respectively, Europe and Siberia, and we enter them as two subspecies.
Chromosomes(1) 18 (2x). - Europe, Russia, Siberia, Far East, Canada. - Numerous reports, e.g., 17 counts from Norway alone (see Engelskjøn 1979).
(2) 36 (4x). - Europe, Russia, Siberia, Canada. - Numerous reports, e.g., 84 counts from Norway alone (see Engelskjøn 1979).
Outside northern areas there are numerous additional reports for a long series of chromosome numbers: 2n = 18, 36, 54, 72, 90, and up to 198 (22x).
