Achillea millefolium subsp. millefolium | |
Publ. & Syn. | Achillea nigrescens auct. ross. |
Notes | For the Russian regions, Sekretareva (1999) reported Achillea millefolium s. str. as adventive in Polar Ural-Novaya Zemlya, Taimyr, and Kharaulakh, A. apiculata as native in the Murman area, Kanin-Pechora, and Polar Ural-Novaya Zemlya, and A. nigrescens as native in Kanin-Pechora and Polar Ural and adventive in East Chukotka. This overlap of ranges is improbable and points towards some technical application of characters. For Greenland, Pedersen (1972) reported A. millefolium s. str. to be fairly frequent but perhaps only remaining vegetatively in both western and eastern Greenland, but A. nigrescens to be probably native. Internal note: Check herbarium for southern and northern plants in both Fennoscandia, Iceland, and North America. |
Chromosomes | (1) 36 (4x). - Europe (N, C), Russia (N). - Numerous reports, at least one for A. nigrescens. (2) 54 56 (6x). - Europe (N, C), Russia, Greenland. - Numerous reports. (3) 72 (8x). - Europe (N, C). - At least three reports. The northern plants have 2n = 36 and 54. The reports of 2n = 72 are based on more southern plants. |
