Antennaria crymophila A.E. Porsild | |
Publ. & Syn. | A.E. Porsild, Sargentia 4: 69 (1943). Holotype (CAN): Canada: the Northwest Territories, the Mackenzie River Delta, East branch, 6840-55'N, 21. July 1934, leg. A.E. Porsild. |
Notes | Male plants are unknown; agamospermous. Antennaria cryophila occurs in the Borderline Arctic as its type locality is in the eastern part of the Mackenzie River Delta (Porsild and Cody 1980). Porsild and Cody (1980) otherwise mapped it from a group of non-arctic localities in eastern Alaska. This range is not very consistent and the species is dubious. Porsild and Cody indicated relationships to more southern Rocky Mountains species. Bayer (1996, 2006) included A. crymophila in his A. alpina collective. Chmielewski (1998) did not list it among his synonyms in that group. The name A. crymophila is most probably synonymous with something but we are not sure what. Its very restricted American Beringian range (Porsild and Cody 1980) falls entirely inside that of A. media subsp. compacta, see that taxon. |
Chromosomes | (1) 56 (8x). - Greenland. - Dalgaard (1989, for A. glabrata). (2) 63 (9x). - Europe (N), Greenland. - Nygren (1950a, for A. porsildii); Böcher and Larsen (1950, for A. glabrata, reassigned to A. porsildii by Jørgensen et al. 1958); Böcher and Larsen in Jørgensen et al. (1958, for A. porsildii). (3) 70 (10x). - Europe (Norway). - Urbanska-Worytkiewicz (1967, 1974, three counts for A. porsildii). Greenland Antennaria glabrata is then reported with 2n = 56, Greenland A. porsildii with 2n = 63, and Scandinavian A. porsildii with 2n = 63 and 70. |
