Erigeron muirii A. Gray
Publ. & Syn.A. Gray, Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 17: 210 (1882). Holotype (GH): Alaska: Cape Thompson, 1881, leg. Muir. - Erigeron grandiflorus subsp. muirii (A. Gray) Hultén, Ark. Bot., n. s., 7, 1: 132 (1968).
NotesElven and Murray: Canadian occurrence has been confirmed as a Herschel Island plant has been identified as Erigeron muirii (CAN, DAO), see Nesom (2006b).
The stem and leaf hairs of E. muirii are very thin, curly, and intermingled. They differ much from the stiffer and straighter hairs of E. grandiflorus, E. porsildii, and E. koraginensis. The plant differs also in other aspects. We suspect that E. muirii is not intimately related to the three others. It is a distinct and beautiful American Beringian species.
