NotesSymphyotrichum spathulatum reaches the Borderline Arctic in the Great Bear Lake area in the Northwest Territories (Scoggan 1979). Nesom (1994) divided Symphyotrichum spathulatum on four varieties. Aster occidentalis, the plant reported from the Borderline Arctic, was included by him and by Brouillet et al. (2006) in var. spathulatum.
