Menyanthes trifoliata L.
Publ. & Syn.Menyanthes trifoliata var. minor Raf., Med. Fl. 2: 34 (1830). Described from eastern Canada. - Menyanthes trifoliata subsp. minor (Raf.) Á. Löve & Ritchie, Canad. J. Bot. 44: 437 (1966).
NotesMenyanthes trifoliata var. or subsp. minor is sometimes recognized as a regional race in North America east of the Rockies. It is characterized by smaller and white corollas vs. larger and often pinkish in M. trifoliata s. str., and with shorter beards on petals (see Fernald 1929b; Scoggan 1979). Hultén (1971a: 122) did not find these differences convincing or consistent. Further study is needed before a race can be accepted.
Chromosomes(1) 54 (6x). - Europe, Russia, Siberia, Far East (N), Canada, Greenland. - Numerous reports, a few for "minor".
(2) 108 (12x). - Far East (Japan). - Wada (1956).
