Pedicularis novaiae-zemliae (Hultén) Kozhevn.
Publ. & Syn.Kozhevn., Bot. Zhurn. 63: 1440 (1978). - Pedicularis sudetica subsp. novaiae-zemliae Hultén, Svensk Bot. Tidskr. 55: 202 (1961). Holotype (S): European Russia: Novaya Zemlya, Matotschkin Sharr, 06. Aug. 1891, leg. O. Ekstam.
NotesMolau and Murray (1996) merged Pedicularis novaiae-zemliae with P. albolabiata.
Ivanina: I contest that merger. These plants differ in a series of characters, e.g., color of corolla, shape of spike, and dissection of lower bracts, though less characteristic specimens sometimes occur. On Wrangel Island both taxa are sympatric, rather common, but normally restricted to different habitats (according to Yurtsev), P. albolabiata to peat mires and P. novaiae-zemliae to mineral, mesic to dry habitats.
Murray: I agree that the merger might have been a bit hasty and that P. novaiae-zemliae could be considered a taxon.
